Jessie Walker's Country Decorating:

Can anyone tell me if they have these books and are they good ones?
I'd also love some ideas on more really good "primitive farmhouse country" decorating books...
Think that's what I may be asking Santa for Christmas........
Need ideas pretty please! :)
What are your favorite country decorator books?
Sorry pics are not that clear.....
Thanks! :)

I am so in love with your blog and your home; where are you located? I see you have a shop! I love your pictures; I do not have these books but woo I sure would like to get them; I know Amazon has really good deals on books and often you can get used ones too; really cheaply! I am putting you on my blog list and reader for sure! I may just visit to slobber and drool over your eye candy home and shop; Merrie

Oh I love all my country books, Jessie Walker's Country Decorating is a great book....also Country Living ~ Country Decorating, an all time favorite. The American Country Decorating Series is great to own...these are all old books....out of print I believe, can be found on ebay, maybe amazon. New books to collect are Judy Condon's Country Series.....she will be releasing her fifth in the series this month.
I treasure all my books and spend alot of Jan with tea in hand poring over the pages.
Your home is just beautiful !!
Hope Santa brings you a couple of
books to EnJoy !!

Hi I'm back...lol
Judy's newest books are "A Simpler Time"~~ "Country Decorating for All Seasons" and her brand new one is "As Time Goes By" All great books.....any of them I'm sure you would enjoy, and the covers are nice also,so you can leave them out. If you cant find them by you I have them for sale on my picture trail. ~~ In the spirit of full disclosure my home is pictured in
the first two books I mentioned.
But this in not the reason I recommend them...they are just nice books.
A few years ago I took all my country magazines (i had years of them) cut them up and put them in a photo album I picked any picture that made me go ooooh. I wound up with three huge albums which I covered in brown paper and tied with an old ribbon...these I enjoy most of all. When I had all the magazines it was alot of trouble to take them all out,and I didn't do it very often. The albums are easy to handle and each and every photo makes me smile. All my family and friends ask to see them when they visit. The only magazines I couldn't cut up were my collection of Early American Life....don't know why but I just couldn't do it.
Books are one of Life's Wonderful Pleasures. EnJoy !

Hey girlie...I am commenting on your ceramic candles...I think that is what you wanted-right?!....Okay here it goes..this is how I would Prim them up:

1st...I would definately take and spray paint them with a flat brown paint.

2nd...I then would Mod Podge the WHOLE candle.

3rd....Completely cover them in Cinnamon and you could also use some Nutmeg for a more darker look...then spray them with a clear finishing spray. Let dry.

4th....I take some handmade mulberry paper found at in the Scrapbooking aisle and handtear it to wrap around the middle of the candle, secure with glue...then take another piece of scrapbooking paper and tear it to be just slightly smaller than this piece...place on top of that for a layered effect...then tie a piece of grungy cheesecloth on top of that...maybe place a few sprigs of greenery and a rusty bell on it....you can place some grungy battery operated lights in the wells (grunged the same way)...or some colored tea light candle in there...I personally love to light candles.

You can also just grunge the ceramic pieces with the cinnamon and just tie grungy cheescloth around them with sprigs of greenery or a grungy tag..and some colored tea lights.

Hope this helps! If you don't like these ideas...email me..and I can see what you are looking to achieve and we can figure something out!

Yes, I have both of them. They are both great books, love reading them over and over again. A newer book I'd recommend is Jill Peterson's new book...very professional and some of the most beautiful prim homes I have ever seen. You can find more on her website www.frontierhomestead.com

I don't have either of those, but I love the Judy Condon books. I only have the first one (that I bought from you!), but have looked through a couple of others at the library.
I love decorating books and magazines too!
Have a great week!
